Pull up a bar stool, pour yourself a chardonnay and get ready for a good old-fashioned Darlinghurst yarn.

The maraschino cherry on the Trilogy, This Much is True is Louis Nowra’s ode to the old timers, motley crews and unknowing raconteurs that commune at the local watering hole. Now middle-aged and divorced, Lewis weaves together the tales of the larger-than-life characters he calls friends at a historic inner-city pub.

Plonked between social housing and multi-million dollar apartments, high flyers and low-lying criminals, This Much is True is a divine comedy that examines the everyday. As the sun sets on The Lewis Trilogy, you’ll leave the SBW Stables Theatre seeing Kings Cross in a magically different light.

FAQs

Do I have to see all three plays?
The Lewis Trilogy has been written and directed as just that—a trilogy. Griffin strongly encourages you to binge this Australian extravaganza in the same way you would Angels in AmericaThe War of the Roses, or Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

You can experience the full three-play Trilogy in one of two ways;

  1. Commit to a full day extravaganza in Louis Nowra’s very own beloved neighbourhood and book in to see the entire Trilogy on one day—commencing at 1pm on either Saturday or Sunday.
  2. Pace out your viewings by attending individual plays at mid-week showings. Wednesday to Friday (with minor exceptions), we will be presenting Summer of the AliensCosì and This Much is True as individual plays on different evenings. Check the Season Calendar to select your preferred dates.

Can I just see one play?
Summer of the Aliens, Così and This Much is True can now be booked one play at a time. Across Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, see Summer of the Aliens, Così or This Much is True by booking in to each individual play at your leisure. More ways to watch The Lewis Trilogy means more merriment, more flexibility and more love for Aussie theatre! Check the Season Calendar for This Much is True performance dates.

Do I have to see the plays three nights in a row?
No, you do not have to see the plays three consecutive nights in a row. If you choose to see The Lewis Trilogy across multiple mid-week viewings, you have the freedom to set your own schedule!

Do I have to see the plays in order?
We do recommend that you see the Trilogy in the order it was written; Summer of the AliensCosì then This Much is True. However, don’t fret if you’re seeing it out of order—you’ll just get an equally exciting alternative experience!

How long is each play?
Each individual play in The Lewis Trilogy is approximately 90 minutes.

Are there intermissions?
Summer of the AliensCosì and This Much is True do not have intermissions during each play, however, if you are attending a full-day experience, there are breaks in between the plays.

What time is each play if I’m coming for a full-day experience?
The following are indicative start and end times of each play on a full-day experience, however are subject to minor fluctuations on the day due to the nature of live performance.

Summer of the Aliens—1pm – 2.30pm
Così—3.15pm – 4.45pm
This Much is True—7pm – 8.30pm

If you leave the venue in between plays, please ensure you are back at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time of the next play.

Will there be Rush tickets?
On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 12pm, an allocation of $25 Rush Tickets are released for that evening’s performance. These can be purchased online, or for those who are unable to book online, over the phone.

Read more about Griffin’s Rush Ticket program here.

Where can I eat and drink in the breaks?
There are a host of wonderful dining options in Kings Cross, Darlinghurst and Potts Point to suit every budget. For The Lewis Trilogy, we have partnered with a slate of incredible local businesses to bring you deals and discounts on dining when you attend The Lewis Trilogy. See a full guide to the restaurants and their offers here. Reservations highly recommended.

What time should I make my dinner booking?
Most restaurants in the area will open around 5:30pm—we recommend making your dinner booking for around then to account for travelling to your dining location after Così if you attend a full-day experience, and with enough time to reach the theatre for a 7pm start for all evening performances.

Behind the Trilogy | This Much is True

Reviews

“The cast is glorious, an ensemble of eight who juggle multiple characters across more than four hours onstage.” ★★★★1/2—Harriet Cunningham, The Sydney Morning Herald

“It seems criminally reductive to suggest that all three of these plays could be represented by just one. The intent of this production is to bring them together, to find a way through them all to sum up Lewis/Louis, to sum up Griffin, to sum up Australia, to sum up what it is to be human.” ★★★★★—Charlotte Smee, Time Out Sydney

The Lewis Trilogy is ultimately an ode to humanity, along with all of its essential entanglements with fallibility and vulnerability.” ★★★★★—Suzy Wrong, Suzy Goes See

“There’s not been such a theatrical feast since Cloudstreet.” ★★★★★—Diana Simmonds, Stage Noise

“This collection of shows is a must see” ★★★★★—David Kary, Sydney Arts Guide

“This is glorious, miss it at your own peril!” ★★★★1/2—Chad Armstrong, Cultural Binge

“A deeply, resonatingly rich immersion”—Ian Maxwell, The Conversation

“It’s totally immersive theatre”—Martin Portus, Stage Whispers
