Griffin Lookout 2027 — Expressions of Interest

What we’re looking for:

  • text-based, full-length theatre productions,
  • that are bold, risky, and original Australian stories, and
  • are led by early-career artists and independent producers based in wider Sydney – whether you’re in Penrith, Pittwater or Picnic Point. (Early-career artist in this context refers to having had less than two mainstage productions).

Works that have had a previous independently-produced season are welcome to apply, but must provide a strong rationale for a remount, including learnings and changes from that season; we have a focus and remit to support new writing.

We also welcome works that may have been previously discussed previously with Griffin through programs like Griffin Award or Griffin Studio. We love when our creative programs intersect and seeing how projects change and grow!

What Griffin Lookout offers:

  • inclusion in Griffin Theatre Company’s 2027 season,
  • a stipend for production costs of $7,500,
  • access to Griffin’s venue and technical resources,
  • a Box Office split in the artist’s favour (70/30), and
  • marketing support, including creation of a hero image.

Applicants must have a producer attached to the project. If you require support with this, please reach out to us as soon as possible so we can discuss this with you.

We encourage producers to leverage the programming to confirm additional production funding if successful. Griffin is committed to providing suggestions for appropriate grants for the production and offer letters of support.

Timing:

We will be looking to likely program Lookout across July, August, or September – however dates are not confirmed. Please keep this in mind when applying.

Interviews for shortlisted applicants will occur in late-May.

If you need any assistance with your application or have any questions about your eligibility or viability, please contact Daley Rangi, Literary Associate, at [email protected]. We’d rather you ask that question before spending your time writing an application!
