A Note from Julieanne, 9 February

09.02.23

Dear Grif-friend,

This summer is feeling deliciously long. And while we are back from holidays, busy as ever making theatre magic (Literally! Sex Magick is in its final week of rehearsal!) there is still an overflow of impromptu social catch ups, good vibes on the street, and lots of ocean swims (or as many as I can get).

Nicholas Brown’s Sex Magick begins previews next week and is as steamy as summer gets. This co-production with Sydney WorldPride has a sexy new trailer to get you in the mood and some clever theatre tricks to share—as always, it’s pushing the limits on what we can squeeze on to our little stage. The kick-arse cast and creative team have been working hard to bring you a show that will awaken your senses, and maybe even your sexuality? It runs from 17 February – 25 March so get your tickets now before it sells out!

Speaking of selling out, the amazing Sheridan Harbridge is back as Tessa Ensler in Suzie Miller’s legal juggernaut Prima Facie, which opens this weekend at Melbourne Theatre Company and has already sold out! Our fabulous touring team led by Khym Scott began previews last night and it is sure to be a cracking season. We could not be happier for Suzie, who is going from strength to strength. We are beyond excited to bring you her much-anticipated follow-up Jailbaby in July, but not before Prima Facie enjoys a national tour directly after the Melbourne Theatre Company season, and a season on Broadway starring Jodie Comer (a super good reason to go to New York, if you needed one!).

Right here at home in Kings Cross, you can purchase single tickets to two of our 2023 Season productions as of today! Tickets for Pony by Eloise Snape and Suzie Miller‘s Jailbaby are available for purchase right now over on our website. Of course, our whole year of theatre is fabulous at Griffin and there’s still plenty of time to subscribe to 2023 and get all the perks. After all, it is our swan song season before we start on our exciting new plans for the new Stables Theatre. If you’re in anyway sentimental like I am, come and soak in the nostalgia at the Penny Cook Bar and walk up those rickety stairs a few more times before you have the option of taking the lift!

We really are a lucky bunch. To have theatre-lovers like you, who believe in what Griffin does, and get what it means to share stories on this little stage and make theatre magic happen. We probably don’t say it enough, but thank you for being you. And see you in the theatre soon!!!

Love,
JC
