A Note from AJ, 28 October

28.10.21

It’s been a while since I last wrote to you so I’ll reintroduce myself! I’m AJ, an amateur Egyptologist, comedian, pun enthusiast… but more importantly, the Associate Producer, Marketing here at Griffin!

With the easing of restrictions, myself and the exceptional Marketing Team (Ang & Rebecca) are back to doing what we love—spreading the word about amazing plays crafted by some of this country’s most exceptional playwrights. I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to be doing so after months of uncertainty. But just like buses, we’ve waited so long to get back into things, and now it appears they’re all here at once!

Kendall Feaver‘s Wherever She Wanders is back in the rehearsal room and our beloved SBW Stables Theatre has felt reinvigorated. The cast have done a brilliant job in rolling with the punches across lockdown and have remained passionate and deeply committed to seeing this play come to life in the theatre—a really moving experience for everyone here at Griffin HQ. It’s an exceptional piece of writing and I can’t implore you enough to see it for yourselves.

Then, of course, is the powerhouse play that is Suzie Miller‘s Prima Facie. Its journey from the SBW Stables stage in 2019 to now is just one example of the amazing talent that Australian playwrights bring both to national and international conversations. Naturally, with the amount of previously sold-out seasons, it’s selling fast, and with a short season running from Wednesday 24 November – Saturday 11 December this could be the last time to see it in Sydney for a while! Unless you want to head to London to catch it in the West End… but I can assure you, our tickets are much cheaper!

Lastly, as we dust ourselves off and boldly finish 2021 with two brilliant shows, we are also finalising everything for our 2022 Season launch on Tuesday 23 November! I couldn’t be more excited to share what’s coming up.

Feel like you can’t wait until the 23rd? If you love a surprise as much as I do, may I suggest you get involved with our Mystery Subscriptions! Even though our 2022 season hasn’t officially launched, from today you can purchase your 2022 subscriptions and all the goodies that come along with them early. The surprise? You’ll only get a three word review of the plays and won’t find out what amazing new work you’re booked in to until Tuesday 23 November! So, this Halloween weekend, give in to the mystery and grab your 2022 subscriptions… I know you want to!

Te veré pronto,
AJ
