A Note from Jen, 12 June

12.06.25

Hi there,

My name is Jen Jackson and I am the Stage Manager for Koreaboo—I’m also a huge K-pop fan, so this has always felt like the perfect show for me. The Koreaboo rehearsal room has been such a joy to work in: full of kindness, care, discovery, laughter, and most importantly, snacks. There are so many things I love about the rehearsal period—hearing the script read aloud for the first time, sitting with the text and unearthing all the questions it raises, getting up on the floor and exploring the world that we’re starting to build, watching detail emerge out of experimentation. While I’m sorry to say goodbye to the rehearsal room turned Korean convenience mart I’ve spent the last four weeks in, watching this show come together, I’m also very excited to head into the theatre. There, our wonderful team will continue to add new layers to the show until we get to the best part—the moment when we get to share this story with you.

To tide you over until you see the show, our team has compiled a K-pop playlist to get you in the Koreaboo mood. This playlist is a lucky dip of classics (like Gee by Girls’ Generation, one of the biggest K-pop songs of all time), viral hits (if you’ve been out in public since October last year then you’ve already heard the Rosé and Bruno Mars collab APT.) and some plain old personal favourites of our cast and creative team. But as the biggest K-pop fan on the Koreaboo team, I get the privilege of spruiking a few of my own picks directly to you: Fighting by BSS ft. Lee Young Ji, a song that gets me out the door on a cold morning, Talk that Talk by TWICE, the chorus of which I’ll never get tired of and Best Part by DAY6, which is a perfect concert opener that doubles as a closer and had me hooked from my first listen.

Give it a listen and we’ll see you at the theatre!
