Yes, sometimes we smell. Let’s celebrate it.

About

How do we begin to describe growing up as a first-gen Australian woman? First, there’s never knowing whether to call yourself Arabic. Or Polish. Or Australian.

Then there are the smells. Not sweat or BO, but the smells of spices, musk and home which you think are normal until you reach high school and somebody passes you a deodorant can. Nowadays you realise you can’t even spell the names of your grandparents, let alone remember them. Life is a bungle.

Through interdisciplinary performance and cross-cultural dialogue, tutaj/هناك (here/there) dissects the intricacies of cultural connection and pickle jars. Egyptians and Poles have more in common than we thought in this earnest, funny, and sometimes heartbreaking quest to relinquish shame at feeling neither here nor there.
