STREET ARTISTS BEASTMAN & JUMBO TAKE OVER PART OF OUR 'HOOD

20.03.12

As you amble out of Kings Cross Station towards Griffin, you may spy (actually, it’s pretty hard to miss) the HUGE billboard which has been transformed into an explosive piece of work by two of Australia’s coolest and most colourful street artists – Beastman and Jumbo.

At the crack of dawn on March 10, Beastman and Jumbo braved the Kings Cross crowd, Sydney traffic and perilous heights to scale the ‘Art Wall’ building on the corner of Williams St and Darlinghurst Road to transform the 15 metre white canvas into two original artworks which will sit above the building until 26 March.  Watch the transformation here – and, don’t miss it in the flesh either!

The street art face-off was in celebration of the Australian premiere of US reality show Work of Art, which premiered on Foxtel arts channel STUDIO on 14 March at 8.30pm. Bringing together two of Australia’s most celebrated street artists was a reflection on the themes of the show – what happens when artists with very different styles are given the same brief, the same tools and the same space?

Work of Art pits 14 up-and-coming artists against each other to win a solo exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum and $100,000. It’s brought to Australia by Griffin Monday Rush sponsor, Foxtel. So check it out – it’s on Wednesdays at 8.30pm on STUDIO, available on FOXTEL and AUSTAR (channel 132).
