G’day Grif-friend,
I’m Kate, your resident admin gal and ticketing coordinator. I am STOKED to be joining the Griffin team and a theatre that is steeped in Sydney history.
I have always had a love for all things creative with theatre, as it can grab you and move you in a way that no other forms of art can. As a coordinator, you’ll find me answering your phone calls to the Griffin Box Office, organising your tickets when there’s a calendar clash, and just being in awe that I get to work in a theatre that has been the birthplace of so many works that hold a very treasured place in my heart. While I’ve lived in Sydney for 10 years, coming from a regional town, I’m still in shock that you can go and see a new Australian work or show EVERY. NIGHT. OF. THE. WEEK.
Speaking of new Australian work, we’re getting ready to premiere Melissa Bubnic’s black comedy Ghosting the Party, which starts Previews next Friday 6 May! Directed by Andrea James, these talented playmakers come together to tell a cross-generational story of three women as they investigate the philosophical questions about ageing and death. As you return to our foyer for the new season, please admire our brand new Griffin Merch Wall—grab a trendy tote bag or a mug for your tea for those upcoming cold nights. (Keep an eye out for me and my snazzy overalls in the promo video!)
As I write this, it is another great day for ducks, and hopefully none of you have been washed away. I hope the long weekends have been kind and you were able to enjoy the sun whilst it made a brief appearance.
There are so many wonderful things happening around Sydney. As theatres open back to full capacity, I will be rushing to see as many things as I can: the Sydney Comedy Festival, live music, art and those quirky performances that you go to because your friends are in them! It’s all back, baby, and I couldn’t be happier!
Until then dear Grif-friends, stay cool and I’ll see you in The Penny Cook Bar!
Your mate Kate x
