🏠 Griffin Lookout is coming home in 2027 🏠

We’re on the hunt for rehearsal-ready independent theatre works to be part of our 2027 Lookout program.

These works will receive a stipend of $7,500, a Box Office split in their favour (70/30), technical and marketing support and will enjoy a slot in our 2027 season, our first year in our new theatre—back home in Kings Cross.

We’re searching for Sydney-based teams, led by early-career artists—for bold works that have an urgency to be told. As a new work company, premieres are our priority, but remounts are welcome to apply with a strong rationale.

Applications open next Monday 20 April at 12pm. All projects must have a producer attached, so get networking!

Full details will drop when applications open but please get in touch with Literary Associate Daley Rangi at daley@griffintheatre.com.au if you have any questions about the eligibility or viability of your project.

We’ll keep a lookout for your application! 👀

It’s our anniversary with the Stables! 🎉

With work underway for our forever home on Nimrod Street it’s super exciting to know that Griffin has called the little theatre on the hill home since 1 April 1980.

Whilst Griffin’s existence at the Stables was formed on the day of April Fool's pranks, it’s no laughing matter that 46 years on, theatre is alive and well in Kings Cross.

So happy anniversary to the Stables Theatre and us 🥳 here’s to many more years of new Australian writing!

First Nations people are advised that this post refers to (and contains images of) a person who has died.

Griffin Theatre Company honours Aunty Rhoda Roberts AO, Widjabul Wiyabal woman of the Bundjalung Nation—an extraordinary cultural leader whose influence across Australian arts and community has been profound.

Rhoda reshaped the landscape of First Nations performance and advocacy over five decades. Her vision, generosity and dedication to storytelling have paved the way for so many artists who continue to shape our stages today.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Roberts-Field family and to all who knew, loved and learned from her.

We are laying the foundations of our new home 🧱

In our last update, we dug deep and poured the basement slab. Since then, the basement columns have also taken shape. Now, we’re moving upward—onto the ground floor!

Since the new building retains the beloved kite-shaped nature of our stage, this process has been more complicated than one would think! The unique geometry of our building means this process took significantly longer than a standard rectangular building.

But at last, here are some before-and-after photos of our freshly formed ground floor and basement level walls 👷‍♂️ Things are really starting to take shape—we look forward to welcoming you back to our theatre!
