As we scramble towards Christmas and wonder where the year has gone, so audiences are watching Emerald City and wondering where the decades have gone. The play is matching the reflective mood of the city. One of the films mentioned in the play is called “Days of Wine and Whitlam”… A very funny title until a few days ago when the joke turned into a moment of sadness at the great man’s passing.
For some reason, all around town, the theatres are looking backwards – with Nick Enright AM reappearing at the Hayes and the Eternity, Scrooge back onstage at Belvoir and a revival of Cyrano at STC.
All of which makes me look forward to the 5 new plays of the 2015 Griffin season… Subscriptions make great gifts... They fit so neatly under small inner city Christmas trees!
