A Note from Gary, 16 November

16.11.23

Kia ora Grif-friend!

This fortnight’s recipient of the Marketing team’s doe eyes and fluttering lashes is me, Gary, the Ticketing Manager here at Griffin. For authenticity you need to read this note with the flattened vowel sounds of a Kiwi accent. Not that I have an accent of course—you have an accent.

It was seven months ago that I moved here from verdant Aotearoa and my timing could not have been better. What a year for Australians in the arts! Kylie Minogue! Margot Robbie! Troye Sivan! *checks notes* Suzie Miller!

And what do you know—we have a Suzie Miller play coming up very soon! Jailbaby is back, baby. Just a few months ago, I was spending my days breaking the hearts of people who had left it too late to get tickets to this visceral gut-punch of a show. Every so often, like manna from heaven, like Padam Padam coming on in a gay bar, some tickets would become available and I would be able to bring just a little bit of joy to one lucky person. But so many, many people missed out. I don’t want that to happen to you. Book early. Maybe the marketing team will put a nice big BOOK NOW button here for you.

As a Black Friday special we’ll waive the booking fee. Psych! We’ve gotten rid of online booking fees. Booking fees are awful, aren’t they? Griffin is an online booking fee free zone. Every day is Black Friday.

But you can always add on a donation with your booking; every dollar makes a great difference at Griffin and is hugely appreciated! Speaking of huge difference, did you catch the SMH article about the redevelopment of our home?

Before we close the curtain on the current iteration of the SBW Stables, there’s one last hurrah for the building that has already seen so much. Louis Nowra’s The Lewis Trilogy is going to be an epic send-off. I can’t wait to make a day of it and see all three shows in one day and soak up the best of Kings Cross in the breaks between the performances. This week we had a table read with the cast and it was electric.

You can book The Lewis Trilogy or a full 2024 subscription here but if you need any help, I’m your guy – email [email protected] or give us a call.

Hei konā mai! (Goodbye for now!)
Gary
