About

Griffin Studio is one of the longest-running artist programs in Australia, with a solid track record of ushering vibrant—and important—new works to the stage. In 2025, we are looking for another batch of playwrights to join us for a one-year residency.

Over 2025, Studio playwrights will develop a new play with support from Griffin’s Artistic team, while undertaking workshops on aspects of playwriting and theatremaking.

Playwrights will become deeply embedded in the fabric of the company as they attend opening nights, get behind-the-scenes peeks of our 2025 shows and assist with play assessments—helping to shape future seasons.

You don’t need to have a specific project in mind just yet—Griffin Studio is all about exploration and wrangling the brilliant ideas swirling around in your brain, before committing them to paper.

What You'll Get
  • Financial support to write the first and second drafts of a new play
  • Tailored dramaturgical support from Griffin’s Literary department
  • An in-house table read and public showing of your work
  • Mentorship from a member of the Literary department and/or the Suzie Miller Award winner
  • Tickets to all of Griffin’s 2025 productions and accompanying events

What You'll Contribute
  • Your valued participation in Griffin Theatre Company’s Artistic planning and programming
  • A workshop for Griffin Ambassadors
  • Periodic insights into your work-in-progress
  • A full draft of a new play
