FAQ: Wake in Fright Postponement

05.02.26

Due to important life changes for the show’s creative team, Griffin will no longer be presenting Wake in Fright in June/July as originally planned. Instead, we are excited to announce that Wake in Fright will close out our 2026 Season with a bang at Carriageworks!

Please find some answers to a number of FAQs regarding the season update below—and feel free to reach out to the Griffin Box Office if you’ve got further questions!

Why are you postponing Wake in Fright?

Griffin is celebrating the big life news that Wake in Fright’s co-creator and performer Zahra Newman and her partner Tom are expecting a baby!

Rather than cancel the production of Wake in Fright outright, Griffin has made the decision to move it later in the year when Zahra is fit to return to the stage.

Where will Wake in Fright be performed now?

We will be returning to Carriageworks!

Carriageworks was our presenting partner in 2024 for Ellen van Neerven’s swim, and in 2025 for the Griffin Award Keynote.

This time, we’ll be performing Wake in Fright in Bay 20. We are incredibly grateful to Belvoir for housing all our 2026 productions while our theatre is still undergoing redevelopment. However, this schedule change for Wake In Fright is not compatible with the availability of Belvoir’s Upstairs theatre—so we are finding a temporary home elsewhere for this one show.

I have already purchased tickets as a 2026 Subscriber to Wake in Fright. What’s happening to my tickets?

We’ve automatically moved all tickets from the June/July season of Wake in Fright into a new performance within the December season—the same day of the week as your original tickets (except Sundays).

Ticketholders will have received an email from Griffin Box Office notifying you of the new date of your Wake in Fright performance.

If you’d like to choose an alternate performance date, you can get in touch with our Box Office to organise this.

If you’d prefer a credit or refund for your tickets, we can help with that too.

Can I buy extra tickets to the new season of Wake in Fright now?

Currently, tickets to the 2026 season of Wake in Fright are only available as part of a Griffin 2026 Subscription. General release tickets will become available later in the year—keep an eye on our socials and eNews.

If you’re already a Subscriber, you’ll be able to purchase additional tickets to Wake in Fright if you’ve got additional Subscriber Companions or Mates who’d like to join on your new performance date.

Can I exchange my Wake in Fright tickets for a different show in Griffin’s 2026 Season instead

Absolutely! We have some incredible shows lined up to round out the year—Jorjia Gillis’s Mum ClubHappy Feraren’s SAVIOR and Iolanthe’s SISTREN. You’re very welcome to trade in your Wake in Fright tickets to any of these shows instead to get a good 2026 theatre fix!

Is anything going to happen at Griffin at that time instead?

This postponement serendipitously supports another big plan that we’ll be able to share with you very shortly!
