Hello fellow flat Earthers!
It’s me, Sam, the Technical Manager here at Griffin (I’m the one that wears all black with the big bushy beard).
As part of my job here at Griffin, I work closely with the various designers (lighting, sound, video) to help make the shows come to life. It’s my responsibility to organise, build and arrange lots of those elements so that the designers can spend their energy on making it look and sound fantastic, which they always do!
When I’m not rigging speakers, wiring up lights and painting sets I love bushwalking. A go-to favourite of mine is the Coast Walk in the Royal National Park. Beaches, birds and echidnas—what’s not to love? It really helps you see the world for what it is… Flat!
This past week and a half I’ve been incredibly lucky to work on Flat Earthers: The Musical by Jean Tong, Lou Wall and James Gales. I can’t put into words just how much I love this show. Every now and then you work on a show that just feels special—this is one of them. I’ve seen it three times already and each time I’m bopping along to the fantastic music, only to then almost fall off my seat laughing. Every time I watch it, I come out wide eyed and grinning with absolute delight.
Do yourself a favour and come check it out. It’s phenomenal.
Whether you’re a flat Earther or a globe Earther, a truther or a chem-trailer, come and visit us with our friends at Hayes Theatre Co. just down the road and revel in what is Flat Earthers: The Musical.
But we’re not just busy with premiering Griffin’s first-ever musical—we’re also sending Merlynn Tong’s Golden Blood to our friends at Melbourne Theatre Company. I’ve also had the absolute pleasure of helping this beloved Griffin show across its phenomenal season at Sydney Theatre Company and am thrilled we get to share it with more people in Melbourne. If you find yourself in Southbank across October and November I highly recommend getting to Golden Blood!
Lastly, you probably have seen that we launched Griffin’s 2025 Season! If you haven’t, what have you been doing?! I’m particularly excited to be working with a bunch of incredible venues to help bring our 2025 shows to life. Book yourself a subscription and we’ll see you around Sydney and beyond!
Well, this is your flat Earth friend signing off—I’m about to jump in one of those wacky billionaire’s rockets so I can get a proper view of the disc we call Earth. I’ll prove you wrong, just wait.
Your Flat Earth Griff,
Sam Gray
