Dear Griff-friend,
Heya! I’m Nathan—I’m the Ticketing Administrator here at Griffin. If you get in touch to book or exchange some tickets, there’s a good chance (40% maybe?) that you’ll talk to me!
I hope you’re having a very autumnal May. It’s jacket weather, it’s dark before I get home from work and the sage in my garden is going off so I am cooking a lot of pumpkin gnocchi. Also in autumn, honeyeaters are flying up through Sydney headed for warmer climes. If you’re lucky you might spot a yellow-faced honeyeater or spotted pardalote on its way up north. At the same time winter birds are moving down from the mountains—last weekend I was excited to see a pair of rose robins that were very pretty indeed.
And speaking of excitement, did you know we’ve opened EOIs for Griffin Lookout 2026? It’s true! Some of my favourite Griffin shows in recent years have been Lookout productions, like Jessica Bellamy’s A is for Apple and re:group’s UFO (shout out to those ducks). This is the first time we’ve opened the program up to submissions, so if you or someone you know has got an exciting new piece of theatre in the proverbial oven, we want to hear about it! Get your application in by Sunday 25 May.
Four days before that (is there a better segue than the humble calendar?) is the most glorious day of playwriting celebration, the 2025 Griffin Award & Keynote! We’re chuffed this year to be partnering with Sydney Writers’ Festival, because playwrights are, after all, writers. We’ve recently announced the finalists for this year’s award as well as our keynote speaker, the incredible Leah Purcell. Unsurprisingly, the event is sold out—stay tuned to our socials for the announcement of the winner.
Finally, this week the team for Koreaboo by Michelle Lim Davidson started rehearsals! We’ve had a couple of readings of this play over recent months and everyone here is abuzz with anticipation. The Griffin staff K-pop playlist has been blasting in the office—even if the harsh screening process has left a certain Ticketing Administrator’s favourite song out in the cold. But Koreaboo is a gorgeous script filled with so much heart and joy. Michelle and Heather Jeong are going to be incredible on stage together, so jump online or give us a call (40% chance for me!) and grab your tickets.
Siri, play Daddy by Psy.
Love,
Nathan
