A Note from Hayley, 6 February

06.02.25

Hello Grif-friend,

Hayley here – Griffin’s Administrator and Operations Coordinator. My title is a bit of a mouthful but I like to think of myself as the ‘everything gal’. If you’ve called or emailed Griffin we’ve likely e-met already! I have been tasked with writing this little intro for you which is not my forte. We may be a theatre for writers, but I am not one of those. So let me give it my best shot and worst case hopefully Christie can edit this to make me sound better..

First things first, Happy February! With January behind us, the last of the holiday vibes are slipping away—no more Australian Open, cricket, Sydney Festival, or school holidays (which I’m sure some of you are quite relieved about!). Now it’s back to business as usual.

I’m writing to you from my little desk by the window at our Kings Cross office. This month marks my one-year anniversary here at Griffin, and it’s such an exciting time to be here. Construction is getting underway next door as we get ready to redevelop our beloved theatre and I can’t wait to see our shows back there once it’s complete! In the meantime, we’re embracing Griffin on the go with a fantastic season across venues in Sydney that are (almost!) as intimate as the Stables.

Our year starts with Nucleus, a gripping new play by award-winning Alana Valentine. Shows start on 14 February (Alana Valentine’s Day!) at the Reginald Theatre, Seymour Centre, Nucleus explores the intersection of personal ambition and global responsibility. Directed by our very own Associate Artistic Director, Andrea James, and featuring the brilliant Peter Kowitz and Paula Arundell, it promises to be a must-see. I had the privilege of working with Paula for several years on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Over the course of those years, I witnessed firsthand not only her incredible talent but also her warmth, generosity, and dedication to her craft. Her commitment to every role she plays is nothing short of magical (and yes, the pun is absolutely intentional!) It’s a true privilege to see her bring that same passion and brilliance to Nucleus, and I know you’ll be just as blown away by her performance as I have been. After sitting in on some rehearsals, I can guarantee you won’t want to miss her and Peter in this production. The cast and creative team are busy putting the final touches on the show before moving into the theatre next week and kicking off what is sure to be an excellent season.

nce Nucleus kicks off it’s all systems go here! We have Koreaboo, Naturism, SISTREN and Birdsong of Tomorrow all waiting in the wings raring to go and meet their audiences. You can secure your tickets to these shows by booking a subscription (highly recommend 😊 ). As a subscriber you’ll also receive a subscriber benefits card which brings with it many perks. I have been chipping away at personalising each and every card with my below average handwriting. I joke. Or do I? You can be the judge when you receive your card in the mail.

Griffin 2025 let’s get this show on the road!!!
