A Note from Dylan, 5 September

05.09.24

Hi folks,

As I begin to write this, the weather in Sydney is glorious, though by the time I’m done I’m almost certain that won’t be the case. So, I’d better get into it before I’m sailing away on the wind, leaving my troubles floating haphazardly behind me.

September is a big month here at Griffin. You might lean in and whisper “aren’t they all big months, Dylan? Isn’t that just how it goes in this business?” quietly into my ear, and you wouldn’t be wrong. But this one is a ripper!

Next week, the tender yet tough swim by Ellen van Neerven gets an exciting third outing this year, floating down the Murray River to HotHouse Theatre. After an incredibly special season on Yugambeh Country last month, this limited run at HotHouse is the final lap for the incredible swim team. What a marathon!

Also next week, our scintillating production of Golden Blood 黄金血液  hits the Sydney Theatre Company stage, marking the much anticipated return of Merlynn Tong’s smash hit from 2022. Merlynn and Charles Wu reprise their roles on stage and we can’t wait for this story to reach into the hearts of a new audience down at the Wharf!

And to mention another thing being carried on the wind, you may have heard a rumour that we’re launching our 2025 Season! Well, you heard it here first: it’s true! A cold-hard fact! More real than Cher’s vocals in the classic 2009 film Burlesque. All will be revealed (minus pop superstars, sadly) on September 25 at 7pm—a heady mix of new works from beloved writers and thrilling new talent, you’re in for a treat!

Well, the winds are here for me, so before I get carried away (literally and figuratively), I’ll sign off!

Much love,
Dylan x
