Dear Grif-friend,
Hey! I’m Blake, the new Administrator here at Griffin. I am very excited to have started here a couple of weeks ago—so far, it has been great! Two of my favourite things in the world are theatre and technology (insert meme here), so this new journey is perfect for me.
My role at Griffin is a mixed bag of different things, but my main tasks are to keep the office running smoothly and be the first point of contact for anyone reaching out to us. This mostly means a whole lot of IT support and a whole lot of emailing!
I have never been able to pinpoint the specific moment I fell in love with theatre—it has always kind of been there. Growing up in a small country town, opportunities to engage with the art form I loved were limited, but you sure can bet I took the ones I got. My earliest memory of the theatre was watching my father play Lieutenant Danny Gilmartin in our local production of Calamity Jane. The singing was decent, the acting was (almost) good and the music (played by my piano teacher) was probably the most put-together part of the show. None of this mattered though, the atmosphere was incredible. Perhaps this was the moment.
It’s been a bit of a whirlwind settling in, with our 2026 Season launching last month, it’s a very busy time here at Griff HQ. Luckily for me I’m a pretty good swimmer, so being thrown into the deep end hasn’t killed me yet! The response to our 2026 Season has been incredible and we’re so excited to share it with you! Check it out and if you like it… maybe consider a subscription? 🥺👉👈
We also had a great success with the opening of Whitefella Yella Tree by Dylan Van Den Berg presented at Sydney Theatre Company and with such a beautiful show, how could we not? If you haven’t seen it yet, get yourself to Wharf 1 Theatre, this show is a MUST WATCH. And if you are reading this and thinking to yourself, “Why-oh-why must I live in Brisbane and/or Melbourne, I’m going to miss out!”—fear not! Whitefella Yella Tree is going on tour right after its Sydney season. Next stop, La Boite Theatre then University of Melbourne Arts and Culture. Book your tickets today to get your Griffin interstate fix!
The wonderful Naturism team are also spending their days down at the wharf, with rehearsals in full swing at STC. We had a wonderful first day of rehearsals last week, where all the Griffs headed down to the rehearsal room to get a special glimpse of what’s to come (Spoilers: It’s going to be revealing 😉 and a lot of fun!).
I am really happy to be the newest member of the Grif-family, although I think I might be the Gen-Z little brother of the office. Everyone here is so open and inviting, and I hope to be the same to all our extended family (that’s you) that I meet. Whether I’m answering your ticketing questions on the phone, walking you through our programs via email, or bumping into you at one of our events, I’m excited to meet you!
Oh, and before I go—if I were a playwright, I’d be keeping my eyes peeled for some upcoming announcements…
Hope to chat soon,
Blake Hahn
