But the world outside their South London school is a divisive one for a cisgender Caribbean diva and her ‘Ethel Cain adjacent’ transgender bestie. As their cosmic connection is tested, one key question arises—will Isla and Violet be separated, or will they reign supreme?

Enter Evangeline—a Gen Z eco-influencer on the run from something terrible. She’s loud. She’s over-sensitive. And she wants to stay.

Set in a time of unforgiving drought, with hot winds foretelling worse times ahead, an all-nude, all-legendary cast takes you on an hilarious journey of hope and delusion in the face of disaster.

Once in a blue moon, in the middle of nowhere, two teenage boys meet under a lemon tree. After a rough start, a fragile friendship fruits into a heady romance. Ty and Neddy fall madly in love, as teenagers are wont to do.

If history would just unfurl a little differently, the boys might have a beautiful future ahead of them. But without knowing it, Ty and Neddy are poised on the brink of a world that is about to change forever. It’s the early 19th Century. Ty is River Mob. Neddy is Mountain Mob. And the earth they stand together on is about to be called ‘Australia’.

Hannah is Korean, yet in Umma’s mind, Hannah is a "Koreaboo"—a foreigner captivated by K-Pop, kimchi, and hanboks. Armed with only Google Translate and unrelenting optimism, Hannah must try to find a place within Umma’s world before the end of a sweltering summer.

One of the things we’re grateful for here at Griffin, is the chance to work with Australia’s best and brightest—and Lex Marinos was among the brightest of them.

Lex forged the way for so many writers, directors, broadcasters and actors who followed him, thanks to his lifetime of dedication to the arts. Griffin is lucky to count Lex as part of the family of incredible artists to have graced the Stables stage.

He will be remembered for his never-ending passion, his tireless advocacy and a shining spirit that never wavered. Our hearts are with Lex’s family and friends.

Picture 2019. Politicians are egged or impeached, Gaga wins an Oscar, Grammy, BAFTA and Golden Globe in the same year and Brexit is on everybody’s lips. At home in Sydney, Meyne Wyatt compellingly appeals to Australia’s heart in CITY OF GOLD at the Stables.

Inspired in part by Meyne’s own experiences, the urgent production marked a triumphant playwriting debut and a passionate addition to the discourse of injustice in our backyard.

A co-production with our friends at Queensland Theatre Company, CITY OF GOLD was directed by Isaac Drandic and featuring a stellar cast: Jeremy Ambrum, Mathew Cooper, Maitland Schnaars, Shari Sebbens, Anthony Standish, Christopher Stollery and Meyne Wyatt.

The following year, Meyne’s compelling televised performance on Q&A set the country ablaze, leading to CITY OF GOLD taking on another life at Sydney Theatre Company and Black Swan Theatre Company in Perth, continuing to ignite audiences across Australia.

In 2024 we continue the gold standard with Merlynn Tong’s breathtaking GOLDEN BLOOD 黄金血液 also taking to Sydney Theatre Company in September. A production also inspired by Merlynn’s own experiences, GOLDEN BLOOD 黄金血液 will take on another life after it’s smash season at Griffin in 2022, moving from the Wharf to Melbourne Theatre Company in October.

LONGHOUSE X STC: Local voices, global stories.

Asian Australian artists are creating contemporary theatre that extends beyond both domestic and personal themes, drawing on cultural roots as well as international influences, with works like Merlynn Tong’s GOLDEN BLOOD 黄金血液 posing new questions about the boundaries of Asian Australian identity.

Picture 2019. Politicians are egged or impeached, Gaga wins an Oscar, Grammy, BAFTA and Golden Globe in the same year and Brexit is on everybody’s lips. At home in Sydney, Meyne Wyatt compellingly appeals to Australia’s heart in CITY OF GOLD at the Stables.

Inspired in part by Meyne’s own experiences, the urgent production marked a triumphant playwriting debut and a passionate addition to the discourse of injustice in our backyard.

A co-production with our friends at Queensland Theatre Company, CITY OF GOLD was directed by Isaac Drandic and featuring a stellar cast: Jeremy Ambrum, Mathew Cooper, Maitland Schnaars, Shari Sebbens, Anthony Standish, Christopher Stollery and Meyne Wyatt.

The following year, Meyne’s compelling televised performance on Q&A set the country ablaze, leading to CITY OF GOLD taking on another life at Sydney Theatre Company and Black Swan Theatre Company in Perth, continuing to ignite audiences across Australia.

In 2024 we continue the gold standard with Merlynn Tong’s breathtaking GOLDEN BLOOD 黄金血液 also taking to Sydney Theatre Company in September. A production also inspired by Merlynn’s own experiences, GOLDEN BLOOD 黄金血液 will take on another life after it’s smash season at Griffin in 2022, moving from the Wharf to Melbourne Theatre Company in October.
